To dedicate itself to the breeding of the Goldfinches mayor can give many satisfactions, also to those who attempt for once. But it's fundamental to follow some simple councils in order to avoid more or less banal errors that could compromise the health of the birds and the success of the enterprise.

The first useful council is that one to acquire our Goldfinches mayor near serious breeders, that they have experience with the species, orienting ourself on subjects with not wild behavior, that it denotes a sure adaptation to the life in cage. Goldfinches mayor is protected species and must therefore get inamovibile ring of Y type and being accompanied, on purchase, from the cession document, that it goes rigorously delivered from part of the vendor (in Italy).. The plumage must be introduced close-fitting and not ruined (abraded). The subject must have the designs of the livery very defined in mask, black cap and designs of the wings (bars yellow andirons) very obvious and without coming from pollution of color from other parts of the livery. The design of the chest must introduce the classic fungus white runned from the brown. In all the designs of the livery it must consider the origin of the subject because much of the variability from subspecies to subspecies is remarkable. In the case of mayor the white parts of the livery, cheeks, nape, rump, tummy and chest they must be the more possible white , without infiltrations of brown. In any case, it is well to take in consideration only the subjects that do not introduce showy defects in the designs, because is too much difficult to eliminate in the successive selection of own stock of mayor. If the subject taken in consideration satisfies what previously indicated, is well to verify the state of health, taking it in hand. As first it needs to control that the subject does not have the cutting “chest“, but full and that presents a good development of the chest muscles. If therefore it were not, it could denote subjet under-nourished or, worse, one be pathological. The same one is said for the tummy, than it must be opportunely convex, but not prominente regarding the sternum (we speak about not fat subjects, than otherwise they get the ventrum completely yellow and voluminoso), in how much symptom, species if it is reddened and congested, of an animal with enteric problems of parasitologic or pathological origin. The liver, that in the subjects very feeds doesn't strecht out the line of the chest (or little), it does not have to be much swollen and of dark color. In the situation of the previous cases is well to leave to lose such purchase, because the mayor for their inborn delicacy they are of difficult recovery and only the expert veterinary can resolve the problem. The sexual dimorphism in the Goldfinches mayor is recognizable from the mask and, eventually, by the joining wing-neck. In the male the mask exceeds the eye, while in the female same eye does not exceed the half one. In the doubt case, the feathers are taken place that they cover the joining wing-neck: if they are black, is sure male; if they are brown, nearly sure it is female. .

Once you reach home with the own subjects, it must lodge them in adequate way. It is advised, in case of breeding already started, not to join endured the subject ones as soon as it acquires to the rest of breeding, because, even if apparently heals, can be however bearers or to incubate diseases of which at the moment of purchase is not itself shrewed . Mayor for the their characteristics (dimensions and vivacity) cannot be lodge in narrow little cages (I am of the opinion that must be for all the birds). They have instead need of aviary cage or aviary that allows the subjects to maintain themselves in good physical efficiency, in special way if the phase of the reproduction is wanted to be begun. The aviary cage must be at least 35 x 90 cm x 35, with gratings in the drawers in order to avoid the contact with the excrements and therefore in order to avoid the reinfest them from eventual coccidis, parasatisms which the Goldfinches mayor is particularly sensitive. Suitable aviary to accommodate a pair at least one 1 m x 1 m, high at least 1,90 are.

Breeding, meant like reproduction and not like simple maintenance of the subjects, must preview some elementary ones, but basic rules. It's good to form the pairs already beginning from January well, so that useful harmony can be created for adapted development of the cures ancestral celebrations in the spring-summer months, when the subjects have the pullus. The premature formation of the pairs is useful also in order to verify if the members are characterially compatibles, because, to the contrary of the Canaries, the Goldfinches mayor is character's animals and not always chosen assortment by us is appreciated . On March end the pairs by now brought together are ready for the reproduction. Such state is verifiable in the subjects from the turning white of the tip of the spout, otherwise black in the subjects not in reproductive phase or with problems of health. In order to induce the nest-building it is well to put in the cage of the baskets (not less than two) than adapted dimensions opportunely covered by branches (with synthetic pine, or natural, to change periodically because it loses the needles). For padding of the nest it is necessary to put to disposition of the female a thin fiber compound, because are those preferred ones from the Goldfinches mayor in nature. For the inside of the nest the female preprefers softer materials cotton or animal hair. In absence of such soft materials, the female can happen that pluck the chest, to damage of its shape loving. Completed the nest, the female, after little days, the deposition of eggs will begin. Of norm, it will place to maximum 5 (one to the day). Hand by hand that they come placed eggs, is well to replace them with eggs feints (in plastic kind, in sale in the storees of animals). Such sagacity guarantees the birth of the pullus in the same day. After 13 days of it broods, in which the female he is mostly in the nest and the male feeds her, are born the Goldfinchesl mayor pullus. To the age of three days it needs to ring them , with covered rings of Y type. To this point it must modify the feeding, enriching it with germinated seeds , omelette and a few of dry feed (some use the cus cus), enriched with buffalos (larves bubbled and frozen). This food goes supplied for all the period in which the pullus are in the nest until the complete weaning. Once independent, the youngs will be separate from the parents and placed in little aviary of 120 mm for a maximum of 5 subjects, in order to avoid stress and phenomena like the pica. In order to avoid pica phenomena I am usual to reduce the lot of light in the breeding and to hang of the pieces of string that once crumbled from novels they go accurately replaced because the birds could entangle theirselves. In the section articles they will come faces single problems to you.

This phase, critic for all the birds, consists in graduates loss of the feathers, replaced with one new, that it will be for the young people the livery. For the adults and for those more than a year it will constitute however the total replacement. Wanting and having of the availability, prative grass, as tarassacum and centocchio, can also be supplied . They are attractive and t they contain in part coloring useful to bright the yellow and the red one. For the period of the moulting i am usual to supply in containers antiwaste theese differentiates foods for the days of the week:
